Learn to Meditate

Our four week Learn to Meditate course provides a complete introduction on how to meditate. It is taught by trained and experienced instructors at our large and well-equipped meditation centre.

Mindfulness meditation provides many benefits – it develops the qualities of stability, clarity and strength of mind. It allows us to live more mindfully and so improves confidence and concentration, and enables us to handle stress better. The Learn to Meditate course will provide tools and practical advice for developing your own mindfulness meditation practice.

Each of the four classes will involve guided meditation instruction, meditation practice, mindful activities and discussion. The course is interactive and communal – we aim to create a learning environment where the instructions become experiential and directly relevant.

Class 1 – Initial Mindfulness Meditation Instruction: Establishing the core principles for the practice of meditation

Class 2 – Mindfulness and Awareness: What they are, and how they work together

Class 3 – Obstacles and Antidotes: Difficulties that arise and how to work with them – challenges faced getting to the meditation cushion, challenges faced on the cushion

Class 4 – Meditation in Everyday Life: Making a path out of your practice and connecting what you have learned and experienced to your everyday life situations and events. Living a more mindful life.

Learn to meditate is for anyone who is new to mindfulness meditation, or would like to reconnect with and further develop their meditation practice.

The London Shambhala Meditation Centre has been teaching mindfulness meditation to all – regardless of background and religious beliefs – for over thirty years. Our instructors have many years experience of personal meditation practice and have completed intensive training retreats in how to teach meditation to others.
