Joy in Everyday Life is a five-week meditation course in the Shambhala tradition. The class examines the Buddhist teachings on compassion and loving-kindness.

In these evening classes, we deepen our practice of mindfulness meditation as well as bringing a greater sense of awareness into our practice. We learn to develop trust in our basic goodness so that we can experience the uplifting quality of compassion.

This course is interactive and experiential. It will include:

  • Mindfulness and Awareness Meditation Practice
  • Talks on the key themes
  • Guided instruction in contemplation practices to develop compassion and wellbeing
  • Open discussion activities
  • One-to-one meditation interviews available

The primary sources are The Places That Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times by Pema Chodron, Ruling Your World: Ancient Strategies for Modern Life by Sakyong Mipham and Shambhala: Sacred Path of the Warrior by Chogyam Trungpa.

The early bird fee of £80 is available until the 12 January, after which the fee will be £110.  A concession fee of £60 is available for those earning below £17,000 per annum and a concession fee of £50 is available for those earning below £12,000  Please contact [email protected] to apply for a concession.

This course is open to everyone and will benefit newer and more experienced meditators alike. It is especially recommended to those who have completed the Contentment in Everday Life course and/or 2 and 3 of the Shambhala Training weekends.


Jane Hope is a long-term student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, and a founding member of the London Shambhala Meditation Centre. She has been appointed by the Sakyong as a 'shastri', or senior teacher, for the UK and the Ukraine. 


Angie Nehring is a student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche for the last 15 years and has been an active member of Shambhala since 2001. She has held various senior positions within the organisation, including teacher and meditation instructor. She works at the BBC as a producer.
