SHAMBHALA DAY marks the beginning of the New Year, and represents one of the most important traditions of Shambhala Buddhism. Based on the traditional Tibetan New Year's celebration of Losar, the day is calculated according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, and changes every year to coincide with the annual lunar cycles.

It is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, and elegance. Shambhala is an ancient tradition that is rooted in the longing we all have to be completely authentic and to live in a society that cultivates our true expression as human beings.

This is also the time when members of the Shambhala community are encouraged to make a financial donation to Shambhala in order to help support the activities of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and our worldwide community.

You are invited to join the London Shambhala community in welcoming in the new Tibetan year – that of the Earth Boar.  Celebration and practice begins in a morning session of Tuesday 5th February and continues in the afternoon and evening of Saturday 9th February.

This coming year is the Year of the Earth Boar. The celebration will be divided in two sessions over two days. We hope this will allow the greatest number of people to join in.

Tuesday – to mark the first day of the New Year, we will open the Centre early with 108 gongs.  This will then be followed by a breakfast and practice for those able to stay.

6.45am – arrival

7.00am – 108 gongs followed by celebration breakfast

8.30am – communal clean up

9.00am – practice: Sadhana of Mahamudra

Close and lunch together in Clapham’s bars and restaurants (self-organised)

The celebration breakfast will include wonderful food and Champagne just to help you be more productive if you happen to have to go to work, a donation of £10 will help to cover the cost of food and drink.  To help us plan for breakfast, please register and make your donation as part of your registration.

There is a whole other day of celebration on Saturday 9th of February, find out more here
