Parinirvana Day - Celebrating Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche - In Person and Online

April 4th

Date details +
    Room: Main meditation hall

The Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche passed away on 4 April 1987. The anniversary of his passing away or parinirvana is commemorated every year at Shambhala centres by the special celebratory practice of the feast offering of the Sadhana of Mahamudra.

The Sadhana of Mahamudra is a mind treasure which was received by Trungpa Rinpoche in 1968 while he was on retreat at Taksang in Bhutan. At that time he was living in Britain and was facing the problem of how to properly communicate the Buddhist teachings to Western students. It is the only vajrayana practice composed or received by Trungpa Rinpoche which is available to students who have not formally received vajrayana transmission.

As is customary, participants will share in the activities of preparing (from 7.00pm), enjoying and clearing away the feast. In addition to the feast offerings of food and drink it is appropriate to make offerings of poetry, music or song.

A feast offering is defined as "a practice in which desire and sense perceptions are made part of the path. By celebrating the phenomenal world, the practitioner simultaneously extends their understanding of sacredness and further surrenders ego."

    Timings: Arrival from 7.30pm, start 7.45pm, finish 9.30 - 10pm
